Type Bugs
For this exercise, you will create a composition of BUGS
using only TYPE as a graphic element.
Size: 8” x 10”
Resolution: 300ppi
Students may choose to use color, scale, text on a path, or
modify individual letter forms by using the pen and direct selection
tools. Your composition should contain a minimum of 3 bugs interacting in some clever way. Be creative and have
fun.
The background should reflect the insect’s environment, but can be as fanciful as you choose. (Although it should not dominate the composition.)
1) Brainstorm possible
insects you could design with type.
2) Research the details of
the chosen insect: wings, body, antennae, eyes, texture,
etc.
3) Find typographic analogues for the details that most define the insect.

5) Keep the background
simple but relevant to the bugs.
